Centurion
of the Adiam
|
I got
the opportunity to interview the Centurion of the Adiam Mr. Merunn
Choash at the Pack Polar Base. This being the first PLE exclusive
with one of the most wondered about aliens on the PLE.
PLE Times: First off Mr. Choash, I would like to say, thank you for
giving me the time to interview you. It is an honor to get the opportunity,
as well as being granted access to this base that everyone is so interested
in. I do hope that I might get some sort of a tour, when we are through,
but perhaps that is asking a bit too much
Centurion Merunn Choash: Our presence on the Pridelandian north pole
is wholly contingent on the support of the Pridelandian government,
and through that, the support of the Pridelandians. Giving you a glimpse
inside can help you dispel many myths and rumors before they grow
out of hand. I have already made arrangements for a tour of the base
after this interview.
PLE: Oh that is wonderful. Thank you again. And if you don't mind
we can cut to the interview now.
I suppose my first line of questioning would be about how, and yes
I do know it has been some time, but this is my first chance to interview
on of the Pack. How do the Pack feel about how they performed in the
PLE war. They were truly a great asset and we all look up to their
support, and the medals and statues are enough to show our gratitude,
but I was curious as to what your people felt on the subject?
CMC: It always feels good when you are shown appreciation for what
you do, especially when you do a good job. The men and women serving
on this base are glad that their efforts and sacrifices are appreciated,
and positively overwhelmed by the gratitude of the Pridelandian peoples.
PLE: What do you and your people see for the future between the PLE
and the Pack?
CMC: Continued friendship.
PLE: Well that is appreciated.
I wonder though and this is a question on many's lips, why is it that
the Pack do not come off the Polar Base and socialize with the Pridelandian's
often. Do they feel unwelcome, or perhaps the idea of hero worship
is daunting to them?
CMC: We have only felt welcome here. The main reason we keep to ourselves
is that when we stay here on the north pole for an extended period,
we adjust to the climate, entering our winter cycle. This means, growing
a thicker undercoat, outer coat turning white, metabolism and body
temperature increasing. These changes, which make us superbly adapted
to the climate up here, makes the climate around the capital unbearable
for us.
PLE: Ahhhh yes, that makes perfect sense. I completely understand
I never thought about such thing. But now that you mention it, it
makes sense.
Now I wonder, why has the Pack brought 416 ships to the sector recently,
is there something going on that the public does not know of?
CMC: Actually, the reasons behind the arrival of the Fleet is known
to the public. The Empire recently pledged its support of the Klingon
Empire in its attack on the Romulan Star Empire. This could make Pridelandia
a prime target for Romulan aggression. Apart from the Royal Palace,
the most valuable target in the system is the Polar Base. From a military
perspective, that might even be THE most important target. We have
taken steps to protect the base and the planet it is on. At the same
time the Fleet is conducting customs inspections on inbound traffic
to prevent outsiders from intervening on behalf of the Rebels.
PLE: So it is a romulan threat the PLE is sending aid for? Very interesting,
this has not been told to us, as a matter of fact I have tried very
hard to find the truth and been blocked.
Do you foresee a long battle? Many deaths? Do you foresee another
war?
CMC: It might come to a war. If it does, it will not be long. It will
be bloody. But Pridelandia will survive, unscathed if we have any
say.
PLE: You are that confidant? This is good news, we know the Pack is
powerful ally, and greatly appreciate the support. I wonder, do you
think that possible future relations between the Adiam and the KE
might create a treaty or alliance? Since this might be the second
time each party has fought along side each other?
CMC: A change in the relationship between the Pack and the Klingon
Empire would be dependent on the Klingons. We are prepared to make
friends with them, but have yet to see any indication that they are
interested in our friendship.
PLE: So you will not change your mind, unless they make a move?
CMC: As I said, we have not seen any sign that they want to improve
relations with the Pack. We don't want to force them into a treaty
they have no real interest in.
PLE: Understood.
Well I do hope that the Pack and the PLE will remain friends, no matter
what.
After my interview I was given a tour of the base showing me first
off the living areas. On average, they have around 100 square meters
of indoor living space per person. A large amount of space though
it is a small gift for leaving their home and families behind for
years. The base is intended to support a full sector fleet group and
support units. That requires a lot of personnel, in administration,
maintenance, security, medical... Some of these live here long enough
to want to bring their families. All in all, around 3.7 million beings
live on and around the base. People who are assigned to the base for
more than two years are allowed to bring their families. Not all choose
to do so. Then Back to the Parade grounds to watch riffle practice.
The Marines are trained to fight with most weapons, or without weapons
at all. Even though most combat these days takes place at long range,
it gives the marine a good background for unexpected situations. The
Adiam spend from 8 to 12 hours per day in training it works well with
their race. The are hunters. Unlike the Klingons, they have no belief
that war is glorious or noble. War is never those things. War is a
deadly battle between nations. So their reasoning for training their
troops hard and well is that it keeps them, and the rest of them,
alive. "Ask any Marine or Navy crewman on this base, if he would
prefer to live in a universe where there was no need for the skills
we have given him, and he will tell you "Yes!"" Then
to the main landing pad. It is from here that transport ships carrying
supplies for their ships launch. They have fighters deployed here,
for defense of the base. Normally, when capital ships are being resupplied
with fighters, they self-deploy from the shipyard where they are built,
or are delivered by carrier directly to the ship. I asked how many
people man the shipyard, but he refused to comment.
On the tour I learned they have a laboratory in connection with our
hospital. It is meant for analysis of medical samples, but it can
serve as a medical research laboratory. All "sensitive"
R'n'D is carried out in secured locations within the Pack territories.
Also in the base perimeter there is a civilian settlement. Several
kind of of Adiam working together. I asked if Pridelandian visitors
would be welcomed and I was assured they would in this town. Many
of the fears the Pridelandians may have had when the Pack first arrived
all seem to the be bunk from what I learned on my visit.
